The Learning Tech Group offers a variety of services to the UCSF community, many of which are unique to the University, and free of charge. We seek to empower you with the tools and skills needed to build better teaching and learning environments. We will serve as your guide, leading you down a path to success. Please find descriptions to each of our services below, along with links to more detailed information about each.


cleOnline Learning Platforms

The Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) serves as UCSF’s space for online learning and collaboration activities, and is used by thousands of users each month. The CLE is powered by Moodle, a well-known open source learning management system. The CLE integrates with complementary systems, including Media@UCSF, which provides users with the ability to seamlessly create and deliver streaming media content.

Based on the Mahara platform, the UCSF Portfolio is a fully featured electronic portfolio, weblog, resume builder and social networking system, connecting users and creating online communities.

We provide support and training for the CLE and these integrated tools, and work closely with the development teams to keep the systems updated and running smoothly.

Equipment and Workstations

Our equipment for loan program offers a comprehensive collection of audio/visual hardware for a variety of video production needs. This includes video cameras, tripods, microphones, lighting kits, a backdrop kit, and external hard drives. This equipment can be checked out for a few days at a time, free of charge.

Room CL240 of the Parnassus Library is equipped with the latest multimedia hardware and software. This includes 5 Macs and 2 PCs, scanners, equipment for digitizing DVD, VHS, MiniDV and audio cassette tapes, access to the Adobe CS6 Design Suite, video editing applications and more. Within CL240 is the eLearning Studio (CL245), which is a private space for audio recording, small video shoots, and group editing.

Whether you are an instructor building a complex online learning module, or a student producing a short video for an assignment, we have you covered with a diverse collection of content authoring tools. We can help you pick the right tool for the job, and guide you through the development process. Among our most popular authoring tools are Articulate Studio, Camtasia, iBook Author, iMovie, Final Cut Pro and ink2Go.

And if you need help putting it all together, we can also help you build an effective online course in the CLE to deliver your content!

 

 

 


Training and Guidance

trainingIn addition to the information provided in this Support Center, we also provide formal training to groups and individuals on many of our service offerings. Our Tech Clinics provide our users with workshop-style instruction on a variety of topics like the CLE, as well as product demonstrations and drop-in Q&A time. During the lunch hour, our Clinics transform into Ed Tech Talk, which are interactive and collaborative sessions facilitated by Learning Tech Specialists, and provide our users with a venue to share ideas and talk about the latest trends in educational technology. Our Clinics occur on Fridays, every-other-week.

Special group training sessions and one-on-one consultations can be delivered upon request.
