CaptureSpace Lite

Introduction

CaptureSpace Lite is a screen/webcam recording application in My Media (powered by Kaltura), which is a media repository and content sharing platform integrated with the CLE. Recordings captured with CaptureSpace Lite sync with My Media and can easily be published and shared within the CLE. You can record video, audio and screen simultaneously using CaptureSpace Lite. This application is useful when, for example, an instructor needs to record a lecture on their laptop at home.

Recording

Installing Desktop Recorder App

When you use CaptureSpace Lite for the first time, download the desktop app by following the steps below.

1. Navigate to My Media in the CLE. *If the link doesn’t work, My Media is located under your profile picture in the CLE.

2. From the Add New button, select CaptureSpace Lite

3. Download the installation file for Windows or Mac

4. Run the installation file to install CaptureSpace Lite.

5. Go back to the Add New menu and select CaptureSpace Lite again.

6. The CLE will automatically identify that you already installed the application. You will be prompted by the browser to approve and launch the application. Each browser may prompt you with a unique message


Recording Options

CaptureSpace Lite provides four recording options:

Use Case 1: Recording Voice Over Powerpoint

1. Open a browser and go to My Media in the CLE, click Add New and select CaptureSpace Lite

2. The Desktop Recorder application will automatically open. (Your browser may ask you to approve and launch it depending on your settings.)

3. Open your Powerpoint presentation.

4. Select the Screen option in the Record tab

5. Select the Select Area screen capture option, then drag your mouse over the slide area in Powerpoint you want to capture and release. Recording will begin after a 5 second countdown.

6. Record your presentation. Use the Pause/Resume button as necessary. Draw button lets you annotate over the sildes. Click the Done button to finish recording.

Editing

Accessing Recording

The Editing screen will automatically pop up when you have finished recording. You can also access all of your saved recordings and edit them from the Library tab in the Desktop Recorder application.

Trimming

Trims the recording frames before and after the bounds specified.

1. In the Editing screen, click the Trim button from the Editing Tools bar on the left. Two blue markers are displayed on the timeline.

2. Use the Start and End markers to highlight the part of the recording you want to retain. The region to the left and right of the markers is greyed out. Trimming is only possible if the resulting video is longer than 10 seconds.

3. Click Apply to reflect the change, then click Done to save.


Chopping

Chops the recording within the bounds specified.

1. In the Editing screen, click the Chop button from the Editing Tools bar on the left. Two blue markers are displayed on the timeline.

Uploading to CLE

1. The Upload Options window will pop up when you have finished recording/editing. Click Create New.

2. Name the recording and click Save

3. Click Upload to begin uploading to the CLE

5. After the video finishes uploading, a notification with a link to the recording in My Media in the CLE is displayed.

Note: It may take several minutes for the recording to appear in My Media.
